One of the most off-putting fears faced by those new to recovery from active addiction or alcoholism is the specter of travel - whether that travel is globe-trotting or simply getting from home or work to a 12-step meeting and back.
For high-profile and/or high-net-worth individuals, out-of-town travel usually is a time when the "partying" can get completely out of control. Away from the customary safety nets of family, friends, business constraints and the necessity to "keep up appearances", the allure of alcohol and drugs is greatly increased.
In situations where performance, business, or family matters necessitate travel far from home during early recovery, traveling with a Sober Companion is the best move any newly-recovering person can make.
Often, a Sober Companion will accompany a client from home or office to the airport, get on the plane, make sure the client gets where he or she needs to go, and then we return with the client. Sometimes, this involves only a long weekend; sometimes, we will accompany you for weeks at a time.
